In Memory of
Ronald William Luque

This album was born from a deeply personal journey through Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), and Primary Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Too often, these diseases are grouped under the general term “dementia,” failing to reflect the lived reality of individuals who continue to think, feel, and understand even as their language fades.
Through music, storytelling, and shared experiences, this 24-track collection seeks to bring clarity to these misunderstood diseases and honor the lives of those who live with them.

THE
ORIGIN OF

THE ALBUM

As Ron’s condition progressed, he and Marie dreamed of hosting a small in-home concert, though it sadly never came to be. The “Sound of Silence” album was not originally planned as a studio project.

The seed was planted directly at Ron’s memorial service. Marie fulfilled the promise of that in-home concert by flying in his jazz trio for the memorial, and what was intended to be a brief tribute turned into a nearly four-hour musical celebration where musicians played continuously to honor him.

THE MUSIC BEHIND THE MEMORIES

The album features classic standards like “Take Five” and “Amazing Grace,” alongside powerful original dedications.

ROUNDABOUT

(Performed by Ron Jackson) Dedicated to Ronald William Luque during his illness in 2020. The rich harmonies and flowing movement reflect the unexpected turns of life's journey and honor Ron’s resilience.

YOU'RE MY GENTLEMAN

(Written by Dr. Dan L. Friedlich) Composed by a neurologist who formed a deep friendship with Ronald's wife. Through the piano, Dr. Dan captures the thoughtful, kind, and quietly strong dignity that defined Ron’s life.

ELISABLUES

(Performed by Laurent Medelgi) A soulful six-string guitar tribute telling the story of Elisabeth, a charismatic drummer whose warmth and energy inspired everyone off and on the stage.

LADY IN RED

(Original by Chris de Burgh) A reclaimed memory. This was chosen as Ronald and his wife's first dance song, but the wedding band didn't know it, and the moment quietly passed. Years later, it returns here—because through music, lost moments can still be heard, felt, and remembered.

The Impact of Your Purchase

We believe in "Music as Medicine." When PPA attacks the language centers of the left side of the brain, music offers a neurological backdoor—a way to connect, soothe, and express when speaking becomes impossible.
